Ellipse Monobloc
A cost-effective folding-arm awning with generous coverage, straightforward operation and useful upgrades including adjustable pitch and a protection hood.

Open-style awning with the useful extras
The Ellipse is a simpler folding-arm design that gives large retractable shade without the cost of a fully enclosed cassette. It is custom-made in New Zealand and can be configured with an optional hood, adjustable pitch and motorisation.
Protection hood
Add an aluminium hood over the roller tube and canvas when retracted. The hood does not enclose the back or underside.
Adjustable pitch
An additional adjustment gearbox is built into each arm, making it easy to change the awning angle when required.
Three mounting types
Wall face, soffit/undermount or custom L-shape brackets depending on your structure.

Ellipse Measuring Guide
The online order needs only the finished awning width, projection and mounting type, but check the available structure before ordering.
Width
Enter the overall awning width you want in millimetres. Measure the clear available mounting span and allow for downpipes, lights, doors and other obstructions.
Projection
Projection is how far the awning extends outward from the wall when open. Choose 1500, 2000, 2500, 3000, 3500 or 4000 mm. Larger projections require a larger minimum width.
Mounting structure
Confirm whether the awning will be wall-face mounted, soffit/undermounted or needs custom L-brackets. The supporting structure must be suitable for the awning loads.
Control side
Left/right is selected while standing outside and looking at the awning.
Height + pitch
Check there is sufficient mounting height for the selected projection and required head clearance. Adjustable-pitch arms can help fine-tune the final angle.
Operation
Choose manual crank, standard Dooya automation or premium Somfy automation. Manual override is available with Dooya on the right-hand control side only.
Ellipse Installation Guide
Awnings are heavy and place significant loads on the mounting points. Structural screws, bolts and anchors are not supplied because the correct fixings depend on the supporting structure. The full PDF guide covers tools, bracket positioning, mounting, pitch, motor setup and final checks.
Download installation guide (PDF) →Prepare structure
Confirm suitable structural fixing points, identify the awning arm-bracket locations on the square bar and keep the arm restraints in place until the awning is mounted.
Install brackets
Face brackets must be level; soffit brackets must be square and in line. Use a string line over wider awnings and appropriate structural fasteners.
Mount awning
Lift the awning into the brackets with suitable help, install the retaining hardware and fully tighten all fixings before releasing the folding arms.
Test + level
Extend and retract the awning, confirm the fabric rolls correctly, the arms move freely and the front bar remains level. Set motor limits/sensor if automated.

What is an Ellipse Monobloc awning?
It is an open-style folding-arm retractable awning designed to provide a large area of shade without the added cost and bulk of a fully enclosed cassette.
How large can it be?
Ellipse can be made up to 6000 mm wide, with projection options up to 4000 mm where the width/projection combination allows. Longer projections require a wider awning.
Why does the calculator reject some width/projection combinations?
Longer folding arms require more width for the arm geometry. For example, a 4000 mm projection requires a substantially wider awning than a 1500 mm projection.
What operation options can I choose?
Choose a manual crank, standard Dooya automation or premium Somfy automation. Motorised options are supplied with a remote; fixed mains electrical connection is arranged separately.
Can I add manual override?
Yes. Manual override is a $150 ex GST add-on available with Dooya automation on the right-hand control side only due to the awning geometry. It allows the awning to be retracted manually if power is unavailable.
What does adjustable pitch do?
The adjustable-pitch option adds an adjustment gearbox to each arm, allowing the awning angle to be changed easily without reworking the arm brackets.
Can I add a wind sensor?
Yes. Dooya and Somfy can use a battery-powered motion sensor that retracts the awning when movement caused by wind exceeds the set sensitivity. It is an aid only and must not be relied on solely — the awning should still be supervised and retracted in unsuitable conditions.
What does adjustable pitch do?
The optional adjustable-pitch arms let you change the awning angle, which can improve shade from lower sun and help fine-tune the final position.
What is the protection hood?
It is an aluminium cover fitted above the roller assembly to give extra protection when the awning is retracted. It is not a fully enclosed cassette.
What fabric is used?
The online Ellipse range uses Docril canvas in a choice of plain colours and stripes. Docril carries a 10-year UV warranty.
What frame colours can I choose?
Satin Appliance White, Silver Pearl or Matt Black are the standard online colours.
How can it be mounted?
Choose wall face, soffit/undermount or custom L-shape brackets. Standard wall-face brackets are included; soffit/custom bracket charges depend on awning size.
Does it provide rain protection?
It can provide some protection from light rain when set at a suitable angle, but it is primarily a sun-shade product and should not be treated as a permanent rain roof.
Should I retract it in strong wind?
Yes. Retractable awnings should be retracted in strong winds and severe weather. The optional motion sensor is only an additional safeguard and should never be relied on as the sole protection.
Can I install it myself?
Installation requires lifting a heavy awning and fastening into suitable structural material. We provide a public installation guide, but use a competent installer or tradesperson if you are not confident with the structure, access or electrical work.
